High tea marks society’s coming of age

KUCHING: A high tea was today organised to mark the 60th Diamond Jubilee anniversary of the Federation of Sarawak Women Society or Persekutuan Perkumpulan Wanita Sarawak (PPWS).

It was held at one of the leading city hotels and graced by the wife of Sarawak Premier, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang.

PWWS state chairwoman Datuk Norhyati Mohd Ismail when delivering her welcoming speech said PPWS was established in 1962, which was a year before Sarawak’s independence, thereby making it the oldest non-governmental organisation (NGO) in the state.

“With the theme Motivating A Dynamic Community (Pemangkin Komuniti Dinamik) to celebrate our Diamond Jubilee anniversary this year, PPWS through its efforts, dedication and commitment as well as the expertise of all its members statewide, has contributed to the changes of the society in Sarawak,” she said.

Hitherto, PPWS has 12,388 members of various races from the 352 ethnic groups throughout Sarawak.

At the same function, Juma’ani also launched the 60 Years Book PPWS and PPWS Sarawak Healthy Traditional Recipe book.

She also presented the Excellent Branch Award to three PPWS branches comprising Sibu, Kapit and Sarikei.
Juma’ani also presented the Anugerah Jasamu Dikenang, Budimu Disanjung to PPWS advisor Datuk Rugayah Abdul Majid for her contribution to the society.
