MIRI: The Sarawak Federation of Women’s Institutes (SFWI) held ‘Lan Berambeh’ to mark its 54th anniversary yesterday.
Activities included competitions for cooking rice and puddings as well as creative batik folding.
Orchids, handicrafts and locally-processed food were among the items on sale.
Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Norkiah, SFWI past patron and wife of former Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng, was guest of honour.
“SFWI is very fortunate to have dedicated patrons including Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajah Norkiah, who has always been very supportive of our activities.
For this ‘Lan Berambeh’ for example, despite being given short notice, she said: “Okay, I will come.”
“This proves that we, the women in Sarawak, are ever ready to serve,” said SFWI chairperson Norjanah Razali.
She said SFWI’s 54th anniversary was testimony of its relevance in championing not only the cause of women but the overall development of the state
