Sarikei member of parliament Andrew Wong Ling Biu, who was guest of honour, noted some of the event organising committee members were non-Chinese.
“This is the first Chinese New Year gathering where I observe the attendance was dominated by non-Chinese,” he said.

He praised PPWS for playing its part in helping to promote unity and harmony in a multiracial and multireligious community. Wong also called on PPWS to make an official request for funds from him. Over 100 members from 13 PPWS branches in the district and surrounding areas attended the gathering.
